Non-Resident Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy department at the Brookings Institution
Jonathan Pollack was (until January 2018) Senior Fellow in the Center for East Asian Policy Studies and the John L. Thornton China at the Brookings Institution, Washington, DC, where he is now Non-Resident Senior Fellow. He resides in Los Angeles. A specialist on East Asian political and security affairs (especially China and the two Koreas), US strategy in Asia and the Pacific, and nuclear weapons and international politics. Dr. Pollack is widely published on these issues, including No Exit: North Korea, Nuclear Weapons and International Security (IISS, 2011; Korean language edition published by the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, 2012); and Endangered Order: Revisionism and Strategic Risk in Northeast Asia (Brookings, forthcoming 2018).
Prior to joining Brookings, he was a Research Professor and Director of the Strategic Research Department at the Naval War College, Newport, RI (2000-2010); and previously Senior Staff Member at RAND, Santa Monica, CA, where he also served at various times in senior management positions, including Head of the Political Science Department and Corporate Research Manager for International Policy (1978-2000).
