Chairman of Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants (KICPA)
Amb. Joong-Kyung Choi is the president of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was elected to his current position in June 2016. Amb. Choi previously served as the Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance (MoSF), the Senior Secretary to the President for Economic Affairs at the Office of the President, and the Minister of Knowledge and Economy during the Lee Myung-bak administration, contributing to restructuring Korean financial institutions and improving Korea’s industrial competitiveness on the international stage.
He legislated for the current corporate governance scheme in 1997 in the national efforts to overcome the Asian Financial Crisis and implemented policies to improve monetary soundness, especially when it comes to foreign currency, as the Director of International Financial Institutions Division of MoSF. He also worked as Senior Visiting Fellow of Heritage Foundation during the 2013-2016 period.
He also walked the successful career path in international affairs. He worked for the World Bank Group as the Executive Director and had been the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines for two years.
Tapping his experience to develop and restructure a wide range of economic, financial and industrial system in Korea, he wrote a book titled Upside Down Success Story of Korea’s Economic Development, which became a text book for Korean government officers as well as ones from developing countries.
